Shortly after the occupation of the Cape by the British in 1806 the first letter stamp ever to be used by the British at the Cape was brought into use. The post office was still within the Castle . Letters had to be brought to the Post Office by the sender whereupon the postage being paid was impressed with the Letter Stamp . Prices include VAT for South African buyers.
